This piece was authored to inform consumers about the need to conduct due diligence when retaining an attorney for United States Immigration matters arising in Thailand.
In the Kingdom of Thailand, and also in other nations across the globe, there are those who wish to immigrate to America. An unfortunate side effect of this major demand for visas and travel documents is a proliferation of “visa companies,” and bogus “immigration lawyers.” Many of those claiming to be experts in American visa obtainment are simply not entitled to practice United States Immigration law. A question on the minds of many US Citizens with Thai loved ones is: “How do I ensure the best legal advice for my Thai fiancee?” The short answer to this question: make certain that you and your Thai fiancee are dealing with a licensed U.S. attorney.
It is estimated that there are now over 190,000 Buddhists in the United States. Most of these, however, are Americans of Chinese and Japanese origin who belong to the Pure Land Sect and are organized under the name The Buddhist Churches of America.1 The majority of these Churches, over fifty in number, are largely in Hawaii and on the West Coast. The second largest Japanese sect is Zen, the various groups of which include the First Zen Institute of America in New York City, the World Zen Center in Virginia and the Zen Mission Society in California. Among other Japanese groups are the San Francisco Nichiren Buddhist Church, the Chicago Jodo Mission, the Shingon Buddhist Church in Chicago and the Nichiren Shoshu of America (Soka Gakkai) in Los Angeles.
In March 2502/1959, the Chinese made an attempt to arrest the Dalai Lama who then fled through the Himalaya to India. As Tibet was made part of China, refugees streamed to the northern borders of India and Nepal where they established large colonies. Some of the Tibetans went further to Europe and America where they founded monasteries and refugee communities. Tibetan meditation centres were also established for the native Western people and since 2508/1965 Tibetan Buddhism has begun to be well known to the Americans. Under compe-tent masters (called Rimpoche), Tibetan meditation centres have multiplied rapidly and they are gaining new disciples every day.

Before I came to Vietnam, I've heard people say "Vietnamese are tricky and selfish. "However, when I had a chance to get to know them, my perception was changed dramatically. They love peace and have friendly smiles. I still remember when I saw merchants sitting in the fresh market, people walking by on the street and even waiters and waitresses who have impressive smiles. With those smiles, they magically attracted me right away.
