The evolution of 'Ecotourism'

As a world-wide leader in nature-oriented travel, with 5% of the world's biodiversity within only .035% of the world's land, Costa Rica continues to be in the spotlight for ecotourism. Since 1993, tourism has been the top generator of foreign revenues for Costa Rica, surpassing both bananas and coffee. The ICT (Costa Rican Institute for Tourism) acknowledges that the tourism in Costa Rica has become mainly ecotourism. It is easy to see why, with Costa Rica's 26 national parks, 58 wildlife refuges, 32 protected zones, 15 wetland areas or mangroves, 11 forest reserves, 8 biological reserves, as well as 12 other conservation regions. The array of flora and fauna is staggering. Martha Honey of the CESD (Center on Ecotourism and Sustainable Development) cites the following:

Travel In Saigon- A Good Way To Spend The Vacation

Thursday 27 March 2008 @ 2:08 pm

Saigon now known as Ho Chi Minh City stands as the biggest city in Vietnam. During the time of rule by the Cambodians the city was called Prey Nokor (Prey means wood or forest and Nokor means city which is derived from the Sanskrit word for city Nagara). Prey Nokor served as the major port for the Khmers and was a small fishing village until the city of Prey Nokor was captured by the Vietnamese during the seventeenth century. In the Vietnamese language the city came to be called Sai Gon. During the French Colonial times the city Ho Chi Minh was called Saigon and was the capital of their colony Cochinchina. Later after independence this became the capital city of South Vietnam, in the years 1954 to 1975. When Vietnam was united in 1976 and became the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the city extended and renamed Ho Chi Minh City, in memory of the communist leader Ho Chi Minh.

It's as if the airline industry has flown directly into the perfect storm.  Just as air travel volumes reclaimed their pre 9-11 levels, surging oil prices began threatening airline profitability.  In response to oil prices, some airlines locked in rates while others took their chances with the volatile oil market.  On average fuel costs consume 24% of an airline's operating budget and labor takes another 22%.  Pilot unions have a firm grip on labor costs and negotiations with the unions have been futile.  Additionally, security costs and stringent FAA regulations put additional strain on airline operating costs without signs of relief.  These issues hurt the entire airline industry; even low cost carriers like Jet Blue, Southwest, and Ryanair have been impacted by the storm.
